The Mayor and Board of Aldermen met in a Regular Schedules Meeting with the following members present: Mayor Maurice Harris, Alderwoman Veronica Hill, Alderwoman Edna Mitchel, Alderman Jerome Martin, Alderman John Carriere and Alderman Justin Bessix. Also present were Town Attorney Gerard Morgan and CPA Jacob Waguespack.
Roll Call: Mayor Harris opened the Meeting with a Roll Call, Pledge and Prayer.
Audience Comments: Iberville Parish Councilman Matt Jewell gave the Board an update on projects coming to Iberville Parish which will provide more jobs. Mr. Jewell states the Parish is doing good, sale taxes are up, he is looking for good things to come.
Announcements: LMA Annual Municipal Day at the Capitol is scheduled for April 26, 2023. Job Fair is scheduled for March 30, 2023 at the Carl F. Civic Center.
Mayor Harris presented to the Board for their discussion and review some quotes he received from Best Buy for the audio system to the Community Center. He has requested to have another movie night for the kids. Arrangements are being made for this. He also wants to be able to have more community events at the Community Center.
Approval of Minutes: A motion was made by Alderman Martin to approve the minutes of the February 13, 2023 meeting. Motion was seconded by Alderwoman Hill and unanimously approved by the Board.
New Business: Resolution authorizing the Mayor to proceed with the grant request to make improvements at the Sewer pond was done by a motion from Alderman Carriere, seconded by Alderman Martin and unanimously approved by the Board.
Old Business:
Jacob Waguespack, CPA presented the financials for January to the Board. He informed the Board that sale taxes are above budget at this time and continue to rise. Our cash position is down due to extra spent on Capital Outlay for the draining project.
Fire: Chief Washington was not at the meeting so Mayor gave a report of 9 calls received in February. All units are in service.
Police: Chief Anderson informed the Board that the building next to Bobbens had another event over the weekend with no problems.
Maintenance; Mr. Butler was absent but he had 4 new men start working.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
FINANCE: Ms. hill had nothing new to report. Everything is in good shape
UTILITY: Alderman Carriere informed the Board that we had 15 cut-offs and 9 of them have been reconnected.
PERSONNEL: Alderman Bessix reminded the Board that 4 people have been employed for the Maintenance Department.
BUILDING & GROUNDS: It was discussed that additional parking is needed in the back of the community center. Mayor Harris suggested that we have our own stage built for the October festivals in the future.
ROADS, STREETS AND DRAINAGE: Alderman Martin informed the Board that the 3rd. street project is done. Reporting street lights was discussed as Entergy is not replacing lights out after they are reported.
